After receiving her B.A. in Fine Arts from Ewha Women’s University in Korea (2001), she moved to Milan for design studies at Instituto Marangoni. While in Italy, her aesthetics, strong attention to detail, and unique Eastern perspective onWestern fashion caught the eye of designerAlviero Martini, who gaveYuna the rare opportunity to design evening dresses for Milan Fashion Week 2002. In 2006,Yuna received her second B.A. in Fashion Design from Central Saint Martins in London. There, she was privileged to work with designers Ann Sofie Beck and Clements Ribiero (2005 – 2006).
Yuna Yang’s label,YUNA YANG COLLECTION, was founded in December 2008. She credits much of her success to those in the NewYork fashion industry who remains her strongest supporters. To express her appreciation, all of Yuna's creations are “Made in New York”.
Yuna’s debut, the Fall/Winder 2010 Collection received tremendous praise from fashion critics. The April 6, 2010 cover of Women’s Wear Daily (WWD.com) went so far as to say she is “a sure winner just out of the gate with her charming Louise Brooks-inspired first collection”.
In September 2010, her Spring/Summer 2011 Collection presentation received rave reviews from the media. Yuna was featured in New York Magazine’s “Nine Designers to Watch This Fashion Week” and a cover story in WWD.Titled ‘My Black Wedding Dress’, the collection was inspired by Princess Grace Kelly and Betty Draper of television series Mad Men, who represent the transitional struggle between the traditional 1950s housewives and the modern career women of the 1970s.
Yuna’s interest in the progression of women as active social participants inspired her latest Fall/Winter 2011 Collection Bright Lights, Big City. Inspired by the novel and 1988 film of the same title, the collection marks Yuna’s first impressions of NYC, and of the women she met upon her arrival in the city.
YUNA YANG collaborated with FOX to create the Capsule Collection for Water For Elephants’ worldwide movie premiere, which was inspired by the beautiful empowering Marlena, the lead character in the movie. The collection features dramatic evening gowns made with French laces and handmade beadings. The Capsule Collection was extended to the YUNAYANG 2012 Resort Collection.
